Employment Relations Education (ERE) Contestable Fund Allocations 2004/05

NB: Please note that this page concerns the 2004/05 round. For more recent information please see the page on the 2005/06 round.

The ERE Contestable Fund makes $2m available each year to assist the delivery of employment relations education programmes under the Employment Relations Act and the Health and Safety in Employment Act.

In the 2004/05 Funding round, 25 organisations sought $3,594,443. Allocations were made to 17 organisations in the latest funding round (see table below). Several of the allocations provide financial support for joint applications from two or more organisations, and some provide funding for more than one project or initiative.

Projects that were allocated funding include health and safety representative training; employment responsibilities and good faith in the dairy farming sector; an employment rights course for working students; and a guide to minimum employment standards in New Zealand for employers and managers.

The Employment Relations Education Advisory Committee assesses applications against publicly available criteria and makes recommendations on the allocation of funding to the Minister of Labour.

The Committee comprises three representatives of Business New Zealand; three representatives from the New Zealand Council of Trade Unions; a New Zealand university representative; a representative from the Association of Polytechnics; a representative providing a Maori perspective; a representative providing a Pacific perspective and an independent chairperson.

Eligible employees can apply for leave provided under the Employment Relations Act to attend employment relations education courses.

Unions, union organisations, employers, employer organisations and providers recognised under the Education Act or by NZQA are eligible to apply to the Fund.

The ERE Contestable Fund was established in October 2000.

Applications to the Contestable Fund for the 2005/2006 year are expected to open in mid February 2005. Further information about applying to the fund is available here.
