This two-day course aims to support the underlying principles behind the Health & Safety in Employment Act and the Employment Relations Act by providing health and safety representatives with the skills and knowledge needed for the successful management of health and safety through good faith cooperation with employers, work colleagues and unions.
At the end of the training course, participants will be able to:
- Describe the principles of the HSE Act and the roles played by employers, employees, unions, Department of Labour – Occupational Safety & Health Service and other external agencies
- Describe all legislation impacting health and safety in the workplace and the underlying principles of these legislation
- Have an understanding of the role of a Health & Safety Representative
- Respond to reports of unsafe working conditions
- Describe the components of a health and safety system which helps provide a safe workplace
- Know where to go for further information
Participants will also have the opportunity to apply for NZQA unit standards on completion of the assessment documents.
