Skills and Tools for Health and Safety Representatives

This two-day course is designed for employees who are training to become health and safety representatives under the Health and Safety in Employment Act.

People credited with this unit standard are able to:

  1. Define the role of the health and safety representative in the workplace.
  2. Identify the requirements of the HSE Act.
  3. Outline the functions of hazard management under the HSE Act.
  4. Identify the training requirements for hazard management under the HSE Act.
  5. Identify the requirements for dealing with emergencies.
  6. Identify the requirements for reporting, recording and investigating injury and incidents.
  7. Identify the requirements for rehabilitation under the IPRC Act.

Unit Standards:

  • 20198 - Identify the roles and responsibilities of the health and safety representative in the workplace.
  • 17601 - Produce an occupational health and safety incident investigation.
  • 17602 - Apply hazard identification and risk assessment procedures in the workplace.
