Disciplinary issues

This is one day course for PSA delegates. It is intended that delegates from particular enterprises/employers would undertake the training as a group.

The aim of the course is to provide delegates with an understanding of the principles and steps of the disciplinary process, to identify and develop the skills necessary to deal with disciplinary issues and to identify their roles and responsibilities at different stages of the process.

Employment Legislation (previously Delegate Workshop)

This one day course targets PSA delegates who have already undertaken the Orientation and Democracy & Planning, Problem Solving and Building Participation courses. It aims to provide delegates with an understanding of the Employment Relations Act and to encourage member participation in bargaining, dispute resolution and union rights areas, with particular emphasis on good faith.

Pay and Employment Equity

This course is intended for PSA organisers who will be asked to act as mentors/coaches/experts in pay and employment equity to work along side other organisers, delegates and sectors within the PSA. This course is delivered in three one-day sessions over a two month period. Upon completion of the course the staff will be able to:

  • Explain the terminology, issues and a range of mechanisms associated with pay and employment equity
  • Apply previous learning from other PSA courses and their own experience as an organiser to build participation in the workplace around the issue of pay and employment equity
  • Explain the context for developing an approach for pay and employment equity in the public service
  • Build skills to help with pay equity processes and work with other organisers on implementing pay equity strategies.
  • Use the tools that will assist an organisation to analyse the extent of their pay gap.

Building Your Union

The course aims to provide new delegates with an understanding of the PSA as an organisation, their role, workplace relationships and building participation within the workplace by planning and active engagement.

By the end of this course participants will be able to:

  • Understand the union’s role and structures and their responsibilities as delegates
  • Describe PSA’s Partnership for Quality strategy and how it can apply in their workplace.

Problem Solving

The aim of this course is to increase the ability of delegates to apply the knowledge and skills to build quality relationships within the workplace that reflects the concepts of the Employment Relations Act and the principles of the PSA Partnership for Quality strategy. The workshop has a specific emphasis on problem solving issues.
